Description
A portrait of a rather well-to-do-looking young man who has a lot of fur on his head, face, and clothing. All I can think is that this is how I feel when I try to sleep in and the missus lets the monsters out to roust me out.
Nuff of that. This is also a rather dark image but it has a lot of detail hidden in those shadows. Some architectural detail over the right shoulder, fold detail in the robe, and the inscription above the psalm. He appears to be holding a prayer book (given the psalm and the fact that I think he looks clerical); however, at first glance I thought it was a cigar (yep, just had 'em examined and a new prescription is pending delivery).
On second thought that fur trim seems a bit ostentatious along with the lace collar. Maybe he is just a very religious person who wanted a selfie.
Thanks for viewing; enjoy.

They all wanted selfies back then.... see what they've started? It will never end! Selfies with a transporter, StarGate? Transwarp tunnel?
Great capture and observations
Absolutely correct, amigo. Only the process took longer back then and sending the image to friends was problematic too I'll bet. Maybe that explains the woodcuts? Lots of cheap images (relatively speaking) to send to relatives to speak of and friends.
Very good painting !!
I agree. I usually prefer landscapes, etc. but there is something about these portraits that is just fascinating.
Love it!
And the image of you being woken....
Yeah, it's weird the first few times. If you can sleep thru that routine, you can sleep thru anything.
Ferrets? My assumption would be mink, as that was a real status thing back then. But the tan fur? He apparently didn't have enough for an all white collar. So he had to do with white and tan. OR, he wasn't allowed to have all white, as that was in some places reserved for the king/queen/nobility. His face looks rather arrogant, self centered. Keep up the good work! Nice little extra comments. :-)
Yes, I agree. A little self-approving in the attitude. (I still like to think that they are ferrets and a furrier pulled a fast one on him!)
He has a very good barber!!
I don't think he is perhaps as old as he looks, would make a good passport photo, if they had planes then
Yes, this guy has guilders or marks to spare, I am sure. I really like realism images and this is spot on.
