Description
Two of the smokestacks on the ocean liner, captured on my old Sears (Pentax) film camera, way way back in 1983. These came out came out very nicely, with just a minimum of postwork required.
RMS Queen Mary is a ship permanently based in Long Beach, California and docked in the harbor. It was an ocean liner that sailed in the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967.

Good job. Shows how big these funnels are, plus the need for guy wires to stabilize them in rough seas. Big funnels for coal burning boilers due to the hot smoke, and also the need to cool the exhaust. Inside are several wide pipes leading from each set of boilers. Q. Mary has 4 funnels, meaning 4 boiler compartments. Glad to see these photos. Keep up the good work! :-)
Enormous funnels and lovely images showing a lot of detail.
In your shots, the enormity of the stacks stands out---because they're either behind a lot of thin railing, or in front of all kinds of small cabins and poles and wires, etc. We can also see that the stacks are composed of many sheets of metal. And we see that a ship like this produces huge amounts of exhaust---to justify such massive stacks. You got us to see the size of these monsters; as well as giving us lots of geometric interplay. I like the light in both too. (And an old fashioned phone booth in the 2d shot! I didn't expect to see that!)
