Just 20 mins up the coast from us there is a place called Donna Nook, out at sea there is a target range for the Air Force, we can hear them practising from our house but in the winter months it is a seal sanctuary. Hundreds of babies are born, we went to see them today. This is taken from their blog on the 12th December. 1926 grey seal pups have been born at Donna Nook this season, with the likelihood of about another 30 before it's all over. More than a thousand cows have left the beach in the last two weeks, meaning there are now lots of weaners (pups that are independent and have moulted into their first adult coat), many still quite close to the viewing area. most have gone to sea. There were still a good few left, the stragglers need to be going to the sea now, as the warder said they are using their reserves of fat on the land. Really enjoyed, it was a frosty morning, we went early, glad we did as when we were leaving loads of people were arriving. Next year we will go earlier.
