'Ain't no God here Boy, only cows.'
- Heck Heckle
It's udder terror for Nigel Feet of 'Fleet Fashion Photography'. You may have seen some of his work in the recent 'Bargain Eddie's' catalogue. He may be a city fella, but he's an honest one. You know you are in big trouble when they call you, 'Earthling'. Yes, we are up to our necks in the Halloween season and, to my mind, nothing says Halloween more than Canadian culture. Seriously, what passes for art in this country can get a little creepy sometimes. Margaret Atwood anyone? But tonight, her egg-salad-sandwich-like post-apocalypse fables1 will step aside as I submit my tribute to another touchstone of the Canadian art house: 'Don't Look Cow!' - happily found on YouTube. A 'Great Canadian Short' from the late 1980's, back when Canadian Pay TV actually invested in Canadian productions instead of bribing the CRTC.2 I will not say much more about the short except that I think you will find it, kinda' catchy. I'm not certain if I should flag this one for nudity. Any thoughts? Oh yeah, if you're still looking for weird Canadian culture, allow me to offer 'Strange Paradise'. Apparently, the Ottawa TV studio where it was recorded was infested with wasp nests. That probably explains why the cast would look so scared all the time. I believe that that is called method acting. Just roll with it.
References: 1Seriously, author Margaret Atwood once described her genetically modified everything trilogy, starting with 'Oryx and Crake', as an egg salad sandwich.
And don't get me started on David Cronenberg with his gooey take on cinema. 2CRTC: Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission
