And here comes the contender of the seven oh seven, the Douglas DC-8. While Boeing could sell just over 1000 707, Douglas sold over 500 DC-8. When Douglas published their project to build the DC-8 with a greater fuselage diameter than 707, Boeing was forced to alter their construction of the 707 and make it with greater diameter. So the seven oh seven was influenced by the Douglas DC-8. Here you see an early DC-8-20 series with an early 60ies United livery.
