Description
Captured way back on 9/10/06 (that's almost ten years ago), only heaven knows where.
Dietes bicolor (variously known as African iris or Fortnight lily) is a clump-forming rhizomatous perennial plant with long sword-like pale-green leaves, growing from multiple fans at the base of the clump. This species belongs to the Iridaceae (Iris) family.
ZOOM worthy.

Zoom worthy indeed! You have me looking up where I can find them.
The colors are amazing. Great capture.
beautiful flower
I used to have these in my yard in California, but I haven't seen any up here. Lovely capture of this one!
I love these colors... Marvelous picture also !!!
I'm still in August, and this was a beauty. (Well, it is a beauty, but I mean it 'was' beautiful when it went up.) Beautiful contrast in light and dark, and the flower opens up to us as if posing for us. And the contrasts of pale yellows---with a green tinge---with those red-outlined blacks in the centers is beautiful. Cropped close, for an intense, simple picture. Beautifully done. And from 2006: Fine postwork on this "ancient" shot, lol. (In 2006, I wasn't even on Renderosity; and I sure never thought I'd be photographing.) A beautiful solo shot of this flower.
(Btw, I had a heavy hip problem in the last few weeks, which made it hard for me to walk. Boy did I think of you. I wasn't as bad off as you were, but I got a sense of how hard it is to do anything when you can't walk without real pain. I saw a doctor and we're talking about remedies. I hope surgery isn't one of them...it's much more manageable now.)
