Description
This de Havilland DH-98 'Mosquito' tail number KA 114 is now owned by the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia. This particular aircraft had been built in Canada and was found in Canada and restored. A total of 7,781 aircraft had been built. They were used as light bombers, fighter bombers, night fighters, maritime strike aircraft and as photo-reconnaissance aircraft. The fuselage and the wings of the Mosquito were mostly made from wood.
The Mosquito was used by the Royal Air Force, the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, and by the United States Army Air Corps. They were flown by a pilot and a navigator/radar operator. They had 4 x 20 mm (.79 in) Hispano MK II cannon in the fuselage and 4 x .303 (7.7 mm) Browning machine guns in the nose.
They were equipped with two Rolls-Royce Merlin liquid-cooled V 12 engines, rated anywhere from 1,480 hp ea for early models to over 1,700 hp ea on later models.
This was the first time that I had seen one of the aircraft and it is one of the most beautiful aircraft built during WW II.

My second favorite airplane after the F-4. Beautiful shot. I saw my first one in England at an airshow and then 633 Squadron made it famous for my generation. Nothing replaces the sound of the Merlin. Hope you have some more.
