Description

This image is based on a photo I took last week of a lych gate at the entrance to a graveyard in a village a few miles from where I live. Lych gates are small shelters which were erected to protect burial parties from bad weather while waiting for the clergyman to arrive. They're so called from the Old English word "lyc" (or "lic" or "lyk") meaning corpse and they're very common in Britain and some other parts of Europe. I took the usual photos of the graveyard, the gate and the view through it from different angles then cropped and resized them when I returned home and posted them on my Facebook page. However, I liked this one so I started playing around with various contrast and distortion filters and this is the result. I was looking through the gate from the graveyard. I've called it "from here to eternity" because of the effect of the images of the gate stretching into the far distance and also because of the association with the graveyard. It's not Photoshopped, I used PSP7, but it's much the same!
