No, this is not a mirage....nor is it even Copenhagen or any other city. It's actually what is a usually bumper-to-bumper street scene, snapped early on a Sunday morning, when virtually all business day LA downtown drivers are asleep or just awakening. This is what California was like, population-wise, in the early 20th century.

Strange, the lack of traffic; even stranger, that curved scar on the street surface. Did there used to be a streetcar that went through there? How eerie, this nearly post-apocalyptic scene! Great shot, Harry!
Wow Harry, it really is a shock to see the streets of L.A. so bare.
LA in 1946, when my mother immigrated and lived with an uncle in Pasadena for a few years. Buses, streetcars, local trains before the deluge of cars! On returning in 1966, cars, cars, cars. Few buses, no streetcars, no local trains. We had a hard time getting around. So we settled for San Francisco - cable cars, streetcars, buses, electric buses, local trains down the peninsula, and cars, but NOT like LA! This is a rare and nice image. For some odd reason I expect the road way to crack wide open and swallow those cars (I must have seen too many LA disaster films!). Keep up the good work! :-)
Is that an old tram rail covered in asphalt? Have seen sop many of those in Copenhagen. :-)
Cool pic, brings back some good time memeories. I moved to the Valley from New York in 1955. The Valley was still full of orange groves and you could still cross the street in downtown LA without worrying about having life insurance (mostly).
Fantastic view and street !!!
Cool scene.
