Description

Once more a jump from my most recent series from the novel 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, back to an earlier series in an alternate 20,000 Leagues world where Nemo has a living daughter. She knows the reputation of the Nautilus, a "sea monster" that attacks ships at sea, and she's made the difficult secret journey chronicled in an earlier series to be reunited with her father. Over the past week Nemo has shown her his world under the sea. After dinner in the Nautilus dining room, they've moved to Nemo's library for coffee, surrounded by his thousands of books and the instruments of his research. His daughter tells Nemo there's no way for him to change his outlaw reputation but she wishes he'd fight his obsession with revenge and stop his attacks. In the end, she tells him, all his research will be lost, come to nothing, as the navies of the world unite to hunt him down. For this scene I wanted to highlight the interaction between the daughter and her father but place it in the context of Nemo's scientific studies. There's no indication that he will or can change, but his expression shows some shame for what he's done or perhaps embarrassment for his reputation's reflection on her. The scene was composed and rendered in Poser 11 Pro with some cleanup of the poet shirt in Corel PhotoPaint. The set is Cybertenko's Nautilus Project Library. I've added the table from DAZ's Rosemill Astrometry in the background to emphasize Nemo's scientific interest. The crockery is the free Grandma's Tea Set. The lamp, which provides some of the subdued lighting, is from DAZ's Study Extension. Nemo's daughter is V4 with the Emmalee texture and Edwardian hair (DAZ), wearing the Edwardian Boarding Suit skirt (DAZ), Hongyu's shirt, the Gunslinger vest, and items from Steampunk for V4 (RDNA). The character is inspired by a Space 1889 illustration of a woman scientist. Nemo is M4 with the Mateo skin texture and Estio Hair and the M4 Beard from DAZ, and the Erp mustache from RDNA. His face and uniform are copied from illustrations from the original mid 19th century publication of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. His uniform uses the pants and scarf from the US Cavalry Pack, boots from Andreas Schmitt, and the M3 Poet shirt (DAZ). Zoe, asleep on the map table, almost invisible, as she could be, is forever the Millennium Cat.
