Nicely done.
I agree with Helle: The gold probably looks even better in person: It's never easy to capture gold paint with the camera. But...you've entered the world of Medieval temperas! With their gold-leaf covered wooden backings. The gold comes through, yes, in his shirt, which looks like rivers of blue and green flowing over that gold. And the yellows of the Fender neck are in harmony with all that gold. And his brown, red and whitish accents stand out almost like apparitions against that gold. I love the mixed brushwork on top---letting darker hues come forth: It gives life to that stark gold background. And you've simplified the shirt, to let the gold come through. It's a very different vision from your first painting: After all, gold in old paintings (from the middle ages and renaissance) always 'took over' the paintings to a degree. (Gold, as you may well know, was a symbol of divinity pouring through. Here, it also pours through, and colors everything with its light.) With Tara, I love when you experiment. A wonderful variation on the photo.
That's magnificent, Jock! I'll bet it's amazing in person!
Rosin on the bow, and here we go. Great abstract from the original, Jock.
