Another beautiful shot. Those ice-layered groynes (I even like saying the name) really are interesting.

When I belonged to a camera club in the eighties, one of our members, a professional photographer for a civil engineering firm was approached by a policeman on the beach. Someone had reported him for using his gigantic Hasselblad, thinking he was sneakily taking naughty pics. Although you can't actually be furtive with a beast that huge. Anyway he said "It's ok officer, I'm just photographing groynes" and was instantly arrested. They had to develop the film to see what was on it.....

I shall always think of these as elephants now.

Wonderful, wonderful. Love this shot with ice and all. The blue tones are so appealing to me. They looks so beautiful against the red brances on the trees in the background. Love this.

I'm chuckling over durleybeachbum's remarks. This is a super capture of these intriguing groynes and the ice gives them an out of this world effect. Of course I am wondering why you need groynes on a lake but I guess for erosion and I guess it is a very big lake isn't it. I love the colors of this beautiful capture too.

Still laughing at Andrea's comment. Proving once again that the police are not intellectual giants and certainly have no sense of humor. They do look like tree stumps. The blue tinge fits the weather and adds to the attractiveness of the image. And those are some nice reflections.

They look so much like a line of cut trees! Marvelous view from this angle, were you in the water?

Well, I see Andrea dug up that old story again about the groynes. Incidentally, my back pain radiates down into my groyne on occasion. That said, this is a very cool blue capture of the structures, all evenly spaced against the shoreline and the towering buildings of Chicago. And I like the subtle reflections in the wet sand.

What is as impressive as this beautiful icy shot is the fact that you braved the cold weather in order to get the shot! Lovely!

This is a marvelous shot, Mark! I have to admit, I shivered a bit thinking about how cold it must get in Chi-town with those lake winds.. But you were a trooper, my friend, and we get to see this while drinking a hot cuppa! LOL

In reading Andrea's comment, I think I would have seriously considered a lawsuit.

I love this shot, so I'm going to comment on it, even though I'm unconscionably late to the party. Your colors and composition, your eye for Lake Michigan's nuances, your eye for ART, make this a winner. Those red trees along the shoreline are a wonderful accent in a field of purple, and the line of groynes is perfectly placed between reality and reflection. Superb photographic work!

lol at andrea; and talk about late to the party; not only did i miss it, i showed up with my pot luck and no one was home!!! anyway......i love this, they look like old tree stumps popping up. your lake is always showing me all kinds of different looks!!
