zoom's a must! You have a band of sharp focus---it runs straight across the middle, and it's wonderful. The rest is like the side of a mountain, out of focus. For a tiny object---one nail in one small chunk of wood---you made it feel like it's part of a mountainside. Terrific closeup. And the sharp parts are like complex sedimentary rock-formations...
