Description
Another shot from the Museum of Fine Art Houston.
We're having a great time visiting with our friends in Louisiana, but that means I'm not spending much time on the computer! They had a big storm go through here last night, but where we were it wasn't bad at all. A little rain, a little wind, but nothing severe.
I'll catch up with looking at the galleries in a few days.

That word, docent, I never heard until in one of your commentaries. I love when I learn a new one. This person is too far away to stop you taking a photo in this fab gallery. I love this long view with no other folk to clutter it!
re Andrea: It's not a very common word. ('Docent' comes from the same root as "document'---something that 'teaches'.) But your docent is wayyyyyy at the back of this beautiful descent into the ultra enclosed world of a museum. I can't describe this, but you captured the 'rarified air' inside a museum---ie, the way its air feels like it was shipped-in from a quarry somewhere in Southern France. It's just different inside museums; and this shot feels that way. I love the long crop, and that the vertical "interruptions" don't break up our journey one bit, or the fact that the back ends in a sculpture and one lone person, guarding the place. A very intuitive shot. And, on second thought, I'm not sure if that guy's the docent, or maybe you are, or maybe the whole journey is...Your light is beautiful, and you got the hall nearly empty...Terrific shooting, Tara. I'm glad your trip is going wonderfully so far, and I hope it continues...
Frame within frame within frame.... And the building is like a work of art in itself. There are certain similarities between the figure and the statue. And, the figure's head looks a bit large for its body (interesting phenomenon). Interesting how the lights give the panels different colors though they in reality have the same color. I can keep going, but you've surely seen it all. Keep up the good work! :-)
I like the perspective & the symmetrical geometry in this shot a lot. And the fact that that the softness of the focus provides a welcome counterpoint to the rigid geometry. Seems like you either caught the museum on a slow day or had the patience to wait for a quiet moment - in either case, the absence of crowds gives this scene a weightiness & solemnity that it might not otherwise have had. Looks more like a guard than a docent to me, but that's a trivial detail...

Wonderful POV and depth you have captured, Tara. You have a very artful eye. (and I had to google that word, too). :)
High above Lake Nasser in the Egyptian desert sits the temple of Abu Simbel. Inside, two lines of pillars face each other in perfect symmetry creating a passageway that leads to an image of Ramses II. Twice each year a beam of sunlight shines directly onto that image.
Your stunning image reminds me of that temple.
What a cleverly constructed photo! And the light is amazing too, the whole thing has a Hopper-esque feel to it. Well done you!
