Description
I was thinking about soup, now the weather is Autumnal, and remember taking this pic down at the beachhuts in October 2008.
Ash, pronounced Ush, is the Farsi word for soup.
This is what Wiki says
Āsh (Persian: آش) is part of Iranian, Azerbaijani, Caucasian, and Turkish cuisine similar to but thicker than soup, which is usually served hot. Depending on the type of āsh, it could contain different types of grain, legumes (chick peas, black-eye beans, lentils), vegetables, herbs (parsley, spinach, dill, spring onion ends, coriander, dried mint), onions, oil, meat, garlic, reshteh (in Ash Reshteh) and spices, such as salt, pepper, turmeric, saffron, etc.
Depending on the ingredients, āsh can be considered a full meal. Āsh can be bought in local Persian stores.
We have a large Persian population here, most of whom arrived when the Shah was deposed in 1979. They are lovely warm friendly people and I have quite a few Persian friends. This group just happened to be having a picnic outside the hut next to mine on what was a rather overcast late October afternoon.
Now, to make some soup......

Stunning capture Andrea. God bless.
That sounds delicious and how nice of these folks to chat with you and allow this very nice group shot. Fascinating info too.
I think you have all the ingredients here for a fine soup Andrea.
Stunning pic
Wonderful group shot Andrea !
Sounds like the soup is delicious and by the empty bowls looks like this family really enjoyed their meal.
Thanks for sharing !
P,S.
Eating outside is not my thing let alone sitting on the ground, with a jacket on, trying to keep warm ! !
However lots of my folks would join the gang above in a given notice ! Smiles.
Excellent capture! :)
Nothing as good as soup and happily smiling faces like here :-) YUM, we have had chicken/curry soup for 3 days and we enjoyed it all three days :) I would gladly eat it a whole week through.
I love making soup, and the ingredients you describe sound wonderful! I shall incorporate some of these ideas into my next soup pot. It's easier to wait until we're in Texas to make soup, because I have a full kitchen and a large refrigerator. Here in the motorhome, I only make enough soup for one meal. What a great idea to have soup at the beach! :)
Great shot Andrea :)
Bet the soup was delicious. Lovely pic.
Looks a great party.
Wonderful shot!
What a wonderful family portrait. They do seem to fit your description of warm and friendly. Ash sounds like it might be closer to a stew. I will have to see about making some and serving it over quinoa or brown rice.
I agree with CavalierLady
