In geology, an angular unconformity is when sediment deposits pile up on each other, then get upended by some geologic force, then erode, then more sediment layers pile up on top of that. What you would see would be tilted layers with flat layers on top. It indicates a "missing" period where erosion was happening, rather than accumulation.
This tree must have fallen across the path at some point. The blocking tree was cut away and hauled off, and the end, which was at one point horizontal and presumably much higher in elevation, is now tilted past the vertical and has fungus growing on it.
The parallel was interesting to me, at least! :P

Here's a bit of information for you today:

For some unfathomable reason, when you put your birthdate in and hit the update button, it will show your birthday is the day BEFORE the date you entered. Don't worry about it. When you go look at your profile page, you'll see your birthdate has been added ... correctly.
Don't ask me to explain how THAT works! LOL! I only report these things.

The famous Seattle Pacman fungus, Gobbleblobus washingtoniana. Scarce because of their cannibilistic habits.
I love that parallel. We have a some internationally known geological stuff like that in Dorset. One day I'll take you to see the Lulworth Crumple.

It's a very interesting description, Tara, as the picture is very interesting to study for me. I see the upper mold-patient talking to his downstairs neighbor. The downstairs neighbor listen carefully, and I can swear they talk about you, while you took this picture. But, I guess you didn't hear it, unfortunately. btw I know about the birthday update, but I didn't want everybody sees my year of birth, so I did it away again, as it don't work to only mention day and month. ;-) . It's silly of me, I know, but I'm ashamed of my age.
