Description
I don't know exactly what kind of mollusks these are, but I was fascinated by the way those shapes on their shells formed a pattern in which they kept getting smaller & smaller, the way fractal patterns do. Taken at Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove. A few more from Asilomar in the next couple of days & then onto another subject...

Very interesting phenomenon with them Cool capture
A great example of natural fractals!
Kinda otherworldly critters! -- Greta find and shot!
They are a species of Goose Barnacles, I think . But I just LOVE your photo!
Never seen these before, cool capture.
I like this too.
Yes, goose barnacles. Several hundred years ago it was thought that barnacle geese "hatched" from these ... hence the name. (I looked it up. Quite interesting!) Aside from all that, a terrific shot. Much better than anything I saw when I Googled goose barnacle images.
Great result
This is amazing, I love seeing all the shapes that go into this!
Otherworldly indeed! Looks like some alien life hatching in a 'B' sci fi movie. Cool shot!
well seen and captured.... now you can see that Mandelbrot found the fractal-theory in nature !
Most fantastic shapes and textures, and indeed very fractal-like!
Very unique to me and I grew up on an island in the North Atlantic!
Very cool stuff
