Description
Pipistrellus pipistrellus Head and body length 3.5-4.5cm (1 ¼-1 3/4in)
Wingspan 19-25cm (7½-10in)
This bat skull is the smallest in my little collection and measures just 1 cm.
It is only when you see it enlarged this big that the wicked teeth become apparent.
Common pipistrelle is one of the UK's most common bat species. It is a small bat which is found in a wide range of habitats including farmland, woodlands and suburban and urban habitats. It often roosts in crevices around the outside of houses and buildings. It mainly eats small flies.

... an unusual and amazing image of this magical little creature
looks big and dangerous ;-) cool picture, cool find!
Stunning capture Andrea. God bless.
Fantastic Andrea.
It looks so tiny in its box, but then it will be. x
What a wonderful little curiosity. When I was in Pangandaran, Java I would sit on the beach at sunset and watch giant fruit bats with two foot wingspans leave their roosts and fly across the bay to gorge themselves on the fruit trees until just before dawn and then fly back home. Two feet and a matchbox. What diversity.
Hmmm ... a collection of skulls. What a fascinating thing to possess! I don't have a single one, so I'll enjoy yours from here! :)
You collect bat skulls - awesome work Dr Van Hel..., sorry I mean Andrea ;)

Very interesting bat skull ! The teeth do look dangerously harmful. Awesome enlarged, the original is so tiny. Thanks for sharing Andrea.
Fascinating skull !!
Wow!!! Seeing it in the matchbox really accentuates the small size. Amazing shot and teeth! I never knew that they could be that small. And most amazing of all is when you said "my collection". Very curious what kind of collection this refers to. You have such varied and interesting things in your home.
I hope you have a licence to touch that. :-)
Superb capture!
