Description
Though the city of Chicago is filled with eye-catching things: contrivances meant to draw your gaze, your time, and your wallet, I find that such tactics don’t work for me: if something is garish and eye-grabbing, I tend to miss it. I was immediately halted by what I’ve photographed here. An access panel and a pipe, an access panel and a pipe at the foot of a bookstore that will soon be moving into new accommodation. I’m sure that something spectacular might have been within camera range at the time I took this image, but let’s face it…the grand-spectacle of the city is often nothing to its more intimate subtleties. Besides, I really like the clean, negative space implied by this particular visual arrangement.
As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week/end.

Well-spotted subject! Great image!
OHH THis is such a superb simplicity and abstract. I really love it !! Well spotted and shotted ;-)
Simple but a good pic. x
A fine composition. Beauty can be found in the most unlikely places...
Fabuloso, Chip! An absolute wow!
Very nice!:)
Great find and great image, Chip. Is fascinating the way you describe city life, and how you find and capture subjects like these.
A simple clean eye catching capture. Superb capture my friend. God bless.
That is one fine found abstract there...you have a great eye!
it's a shot and a painting at the same time :)
I thought I'd commented on this, I really thought so! I say that because I came back to it several times after you posted it. It's a first rate piece of sheer abstraction, one of the best I've seen in photography in a while. Spare, and yet with lots of sooty detail. The saturated red is terrific against all that black, the lower beige panel is wonderfully balanced (the proportions of 2/3 black to 1/3 beige are just right---you're in Mark Rothko territory here, he being one of the masters of the 2 or 3 rectangle painting, with lots of subtle variations within). There's a black spot on the large red 'door' which makes an almost Miro-like appearance. The pipe has smearing of wonderful purples. And that black is wonderful contrast to it all. You cropped it perfectly...Masterful, Chip. Sorry I didn't comment before, I sure looked enough times. Terrific minimalist work, with lots more than minimalism inside it.
Nice composition and well seen.
I can hardly remember anything like this captured by you. I guess you shouldn't stop here. The image is almost perfect.
makes you wonder what the story really is. Great capture minimalism at its best
