Description
Captured back on 5/3/07, inside the Pavilion of Wings, a temporary adjunct to the beautiful Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History in Los Angeles, California.
A bottom portion of the left wing was lost due to air to air combat.
Most people can step out into their backyard and find butterflies. Since I live in a mostly insect-free area (ants only and an occasional arachnid), I had to drive 22 miles and then pay parking and admission just to go in and snap photos of these beautiful creatures. Also, due to the popularity of the exhibit, time within the compound was limited to no more than forty-five minutes, so, just like photographing eyeglasses and their shadows, I had to work at a rapid pace.

That is one gorgeous butterfly! I don't think I've ever seen one like that. Excellent work getting it captured on the lantana, a favourite spot for butties.
