Description

Greetings Folks, Zoom is a must (sorry you can't hear this).. The Rolls Royce Merlin engine, is a Liquid Cooled, V-12 Piston Aero Engine.. It first ran in 1933 and is still being used by at least one Air Force today! The first aircraft to use it was the Fairy Battle the most famous maybe, the Supermarine Spitfire.. But! The most were used on Lancaster's.. Almost 150,000 had been built when production finally stopped in the 50's.. The Griffon engine carried on being made.. 45 British Aircraft used the Merlin at least, plus, U.S. (The Mustang) and many other Countries used it.. And the Air Force that has IN SERVICE aircraft still using them? The RAF.. The Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight are RAF Aircraft not Private.. The are based at RAF Conninsby and serviced by RAF Personnel.. Conninsby is a Typhoon base. Enjoy, taken at this years Flying Legends show Rob

That would be something to hear in person! The one on the left looks to have a Lancaster's radiator underneath. I wonder what planes flew with the Merlin 24? Apparently the license-built Packard Merlins weren't completely identical. When VR-A lost an engine this past fall, the BBMF "loaner" was a Rolls model and some modifications were required to get it installed.
