Greetings Folks,
One my recent visit to our Capital City, while sitting having a coffee enjoying the morning sun, trotting by came the Blues and Royals heading for the Changing Of the Guard Ceremony...
Right place, right time...
For all the bad, corruption and utter awfulness about this Country, there is one thing it does damn well... This stuff!
The Household Cavalry (HCav) is made up of the two most senior regiments of the British Army, the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons). These regiments are divided between the Armoured Regiment stationed at Combermere Barracks in Windsor and the ceremonial mounted unit, the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, garrisoned at Hyde Park Barracks (Knightsbridge Barracks) in London. The Household Cavalry is part of the Household Division and is the Queen's official bodyguard.
The Both are Active Unit's as well..
Noted past serving members include : Ray Milland the actor (Blues), Prince's Harry and William (both Blues).
In the background is The Wellington Arch, more on that later..

I'm glad to see there's still some pomp and pageantry in the UK (we can dispense with the circumstances, they tend to mess things up). On first seeing the photo I thought you were referring to riding against a red light until I saw the markings on the pavement. Nice that you had the luck to get this photo. The red plumes on the helmets surprised me a bit. Which unit has them? Keep up the good work. And God save the Queen (the PM and other politicos won't - they just want to save their pocket books). So she does well to have a good mounted guard! :-)

Hey Rob, it seems like you Brits moan and groan and bitch about your country almost as much as we Yanks bitch about our country (LOL). Granted, there are many things about our democracies that need fixing, but isn't it great to know we CAN raise our voices without political repercussions from the state? As for your photo, I too think a little pomp and pageantry are a wonderful tradition and Britain does it as well as anybody. Nice posting.

OMG, how I wish they had this pomp and ceremony in my neck of the woods. The closest we come to this is late in the month of October when we have tons of cowboy - and some cowgirl - riders on horseback prance down the boulevard during our annual Halloween parade. And they are no where as elegant as the troupe shown above. Cool capture of the royal bunch, mate.

It is wonderful to see Ceremony like this. I'm sure if we here in the states had thousands of years of history and tradition instead of just a couple of centuries we too would have more than...well the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is the one that comes to mind right now! Thanks for sharing this, Rob.

It's a wonderful, proud thing for a country to maintain as much of its culture and tradition as possible. I'm glad to see Britain continue to uphold these cherished bits of tradition and ceremony. There's damn little culture or tradition left here..... It's just not PC. God forbid we offend any of our "undocumented" and ungrateful .......guests.... Don't get me started.... Great shot, Rob! It's good to be in the right place at the right time now and then...

Makes you proud!!.... I saw this sight several times over the years as a child, visiting relatives in ' the smoke '.... I recall that at that time there were 'hundreds' of them.... Cut backs??? or just your pov?.... either way, a great shot and happy memories.
