Remember the hand-painted toilet from the other day? There was no sink in the room, but there was a tin bathtub and a stove for heating water.
I thought about posting this in the Abstract genre, because the colors, shapes, textures and light are pleasing to me no matter what the object is.
You can decide for yourself if you like it as an abstract or as an old bathtub. :P

Damned walk in shower. How I miss my tub :( Long soaks after a hard days muscle work, there was nothing like it. Lovely wood panels too, these days it's all pressed resin and plastic moulding, I always think the later has a great apt name, because all they do is grow mould, where as the old wood and china never did. Lovely shot sweetie, please have a great Christmas, and wish Bill the same from me.
I'm thinking this thing doesn't look very water proof. I have a mental image of a cowboy with his hat on lounging back in this thing with his boots and gunbelt lying on the floor.
Wonderful capture!!
Wow!! This is a great capture!! Love the soap holder and wondering if that is faucet on the end!!
Amazing play with shadow and light here! Merry Christmas... from Chrissy and I to you and Bill!
I love it as a bath. It was probably quite a luxury in its day.
Well, I can't really see it as an abstract because it's such a clearly defined object in clearly defined surroundings, but certainly there are some very appealing colors & textures here that could each easily be abstracts in their own right. Everything seems to be fading, peeling or wearing away with age & in a world where a lot of what we encounter tends to be bright & shiny & plastic, this is very visually soothing & appealing. That being said, I have no desire to give up the comfort of my modern tile shower or my molded acrylic hot tub for this historical tin tub...
What catches my eye is the wooden floor and the piece of carpeting at the bottom of the picture. I would like to try it for a bath. It does look comfortable in a rough way. A very good shot, but I wouldn't call it an abstract.
Amazing !
Although somewhat run down I'm sure it was quite elegant in its day. I do see abstract qualities in parts of this image, particularly the wall.
Cool old relic for sure, love it!
what a wonderful photo ! all of it
Either for me Tara but I bet the scum was hard to remove !!
lol, it's great to see how this evokes so many responses about the tub! I guess we all have lots of feelings about our tubs! And yeah, I bet it ain't easy to clean this thing (of the 'scum'---you just don't hear enough of that word). But your image has such an antique feel, and it's soft, and the hues are soft as if they were painted with thin delicate oils. And the hues all talk to each other, from the wall to the wooden back-splash, to the deep brown of the tub, and the tub's dark blue. All harmonized by you beautifully---another warm inviting gentle "keepsake" from you. It's beautiful. And I wish you and BIll a wonderful holiday (I STILL can't get it into my head that you, a Pacific Northwesterner, are living in Texas now! I'd pay you to post a shot of you and Bill rustling cattle with a 10 ton hat and those high boots, yelping "Hee-yoooooo!" and a big s___eating grin on both your faces. Sittin' down to a plate of ribs afterwards. You could really shock your fans if you did a shot like that---but REAL cattle, not some fake thing you got in a photo booth at a fair!) Anyway, a sweet holiday to you both, and bows for the beautiful art you've posted here all year, and for your wonderful comments. (I saw your comments to Claude, suggesting he was entering the alphabet series...sneaky way to get him to join, lol. I don't think he'll be joining...) Happy holiday to you both! This is a beautiful image!
Oh to sit in a tub with very hot water and just let the heat take the cares away Great capture! they need an abstract object genre
Superb capture Tara. May Christmas and 2015 be filled with blessings in abundance for you and Bill and your loved ones. God bless.
Your vision and camera have such a way of caressing the subject, be it cactus, glass, rock, metal or wood; it's as if you're giving us a gift of your vision, and it's wonderful. I love this tub, but it sort of makes me think of a coffin for some reason; must the the shape and finish of the wood...of course in olden times baths were to be avoided at all costs because they were unhealthy. Talk about mould and unremovable dirt!
Actually, I like it as both, Tara! This is at once a delightful look at our not-too-distant history (which is always fascinating), and at the same time a lovely study in form, color, and texture. You just can't lose! :-D Hope you and Bill have a very Merry Christmas, and a happy and photo-filled 2015! All the best from Jo and me (and all the Girls, too!)
It doesnt look so slippery as the tubs we have today. Here it looks like a nice furniture :)
