Description
It's taken me a year to get a close woodpecker shot. Big surprise to see it's a totally new woodpecker for me - The Ladder Backed Woodpecker.
I heard the sound of him knock-knock-knocking and turned around and clicked into the morning sun. Backligting required a good deal of editing. I have a clearer shot of his face, but that head pattern is so very impressive, I had to choose this one.
As with all bird photos, details are much better zoomed.
Thank you all very much for your kind views and comments.

Fantastic capture of this fascinating creature...
Oh my, you have done yourself proud with this one; yes, that head is amazing, what a beautiful creature!!!
Wonderful capture, love the detail!
you rescued the capture so well.I would have not noticed if you did not mention it and I still do not see any problem
Now a Ladder-Backed Woodpecker! Who would have thunk it? A pretty variety of that particular species, albeit most odd compared to the other generic woodpeckers I've seen, which hasn't been too many. Nonetheless, fabulous focus employed in this shot of the many textured avian and victimized tree trunk, Marie.
this is a pretty bird. nice shot!
Great capture - I've never seen this type of woodpecker before & it contrasts nicely with that blue & yellow background...
this is wonderful looking
Great capture !!
So exciting to get a new species! What complex patterning it has, such lovely colours which I expect make him vanish easily. Clever lady!
The outcome of your work is brilliant Maria and I also have never heard of this species.
