Description
We arrived in Pilot Knob late this afternoon. Right across the street from our motel is the Fort Davidson historical site, scene of a battle during the American Civil War. The earthworks are still in good condition, although the wooden walls of the fort are long gone. Surrounded by Confederate troops, the small Union Garrison piled everything they couldn't take with them into the powder magazine, lit a slow-burning fuse, and escaped under cover of darkness. The large crater in the center of the earthworks is the result of the massive blast. Kinda reminds me of Ranpha's lab... :-D

This was taken from about 130 ft with my Phantom. The T-Shaped building in the background is where we're staying. You can see our minivan parked facing into the right angle of the "T".
We'll plan on visiting Elephant Rocks and Johnson's shut-ins State Parks tomorrow. More photos to come!

Rod, this is such a cool capture that could only have been achieved with your Phantom. I feel sorta bad not knowing about this battlefield, or the events that took place here. (Especially since I live in the state) Thanks to you sparking my interest and providing a link, I'm going to check it out.

Cool shot... that Phantom gets some great shots... I don't know about the large crater.... her lab never had a crater... ok, maybe a crater size hole in one of the wall, and not to mention blowing up a bot in the middle of the lab... but the cake did no damage at all, save make a big mess... Hmmm, you I see your point... oops I hope Ranpha didn't hear that.. It looks like you're have a great time... hope to see more great shots like this one..

What a perfect subject for a Phantom shot! I love old forts and historic sites (although the details of the battle will interest Bill more than they do me), and I'm thrilled to see this!

I was wondering what that depression in the center was when I first looked at the photo. I bet that blast was a humdinger. Marvelous photo and bit of history. Don't give Ranpha any ideas!
