Vespa crabro
The Hornets in an old Woodpecker hole in a tree next to the path at Arne RSPB reserve, Dorset
I managed three pictures before I chickened out.
I had to get as close as I am to this screen, and I didn't push my luck!

fantastic capture of these intriguing critters
They look quite evil :o)))
Nice shot.
Seems like they were looking straight at you - I wouldn't have stuck around much longer either, but you got a very nice shot of this trio...
Amazing pic
I think they mean business Andrea. Super shot.
Fantastic capture !!!
Yikes they look unbelievably dangerous. Awesome photo shot Andrea.
I'd hate to have them swarm me. Great capture and I don't blame you one bit for not getting any additional photos
Brave photo(grapher).
Don't think I'd want to be that close to a hornet's nest, not even for a fantastic photo like this, Andrea :)
Superb capture Andrea. God bless.
They are so big they look menacing! A cracking shot Andrea! I saw your comment about Angel's trumpets. They are such gross feeders that it takes a lot of tomato feed to get those flowers going I have been told. It was from a gardener at Kew, and there plants where covered in flowers! The scent was overpowering!
They look like they could hurt you! Great shot!
They've probably got semiautomatic weapons standing by and ready to go. Amazing creatures!
Playing with fire there, one is enough to UN-calibrate my pooper.
A very bold move Andrea and they certainly have their eyes on you!
Very well named photo! I sure wouldn't have bothered them! Good that you got the shot and weren't stung!
Could be in a horror movie.
