Took this last Wednesday. You can see the 'statue' called the Angel of the North which stands on a hill top just South of Newcastle and is huge.

Excellent capture of Newcastle's answer to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, The people standing next to the pedestal really show the size. It does look very much like an airplane.

Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North is in Gateshead Not Newcastle on Tyne On the north bank of the river Tyne is the city of Newcastle on Tyne on the south bank is The town of Gateshead. It’s one of those pieces of modern art that one can dismiss as a bit silly if one hears about it, I did. But when you go and see it just works, I was awed and impressed by it. The reason I correct this and I’m not just being an anorak here, is that there is a historic rivalry between Gateshead and Newcastle, I think people of the smaller Gateshead do not like being confused as being from Newcastle all the time. So many a person from Gateshead would be very unhappy at you suggesting it was in Newcastle. It is a cool pic.

I appreciate your concern but if you take the trouble to read exactly what I wrote you will see that I placed it South of Newcastle and not in it. I do know that Gateshead is also South of Newcastle and understand that there is great rivalry in those parts! Jeff.

It's an impressing statue, such big and one becomes immediately a deep respect feeling by seeing it, anyway that's my feeling by seeing your outstanding picture of it, my friend. I guess your angel is also a very beautiful Julie, am I right? In some way I got the doubt idea it's you who is sitting in front, but that couldn't be right. In my opinion this 'photographer in the blue' gives even more depth to your photo, Jeff.

A photographer taking a picture of a photographer taking a picture of a woman imitating a statue - interesting concept & visually appealing as well...

A wonderful capture; the tourists around and in front of it add to the atmosphere and give a sense of scale. Well done!

Now....while this is now famous and will be accepted as so.. Someone actually sat in an office and said 'Oh yes, that looks like an Angel, lets spend loads of cash on it!'. And no-one replied, WTF? Super POv Jeff none the less (don't think I'm detracting from your photo).. Rob
