Wonderful study in light and shadow! Great capture Tara!

The textures & light are extraordinary. The limited color palette - primarily yellows, browns & blacks - creates some very rich combinations that I find very appealing. It was very perceptive of you to have seen the potential in this scene & very skillful of you to have postworked it to perfection. Not something that the average photographer would probably even notice...

You have managed to make a sort of beauty out a rather depressing corner. I admire your ability to actually enjoy these fort visits, as it don't think I would.

Mold! Water! Architectural decrepitude; and it's an interesting echo to the images of Pripyat that I was looking at earlier today. Pripyat looks a bit drier than this, but the black growth of that wall makes me think of what must be thriving in that dead Ukrainian city: cleaning it up by eating radiation. This image isn't as grim as some of the ones I've seen, but like some of those images, this one holds such an undeniable beauty. I love the dance of light and shadow, as well as the splash of green and the stillness of the water; I can imagine that some very interesting, vigorous, and healthy cilia-bearing people live in that water. What I love, however, are the warm colors in this image. Even the pales--the whites and the off-whites--look amazingly warm, and even comforting. This is simply brilliant.

The quality of the light leads me to imagine that the rain has moved off and that the sun is trying to break through; I could be wrong, but that's the feeling I'm getting from the puddle on the floor versus the lighter yellow patch on the wall. What a great composition and capture!

I bet this place SMELLS interesting. I'm thinking one of those pungent moldy wet stone earthy smells that can be strangely captivating in an odd sort of way. I think it would be kind of fun to wander around in this place. It would be an interesting way to while away an afternoon and would probably do strange and exciting things to my sinus passages. And I'm sure Chip would make a lot of new friends. Anyway, you captured a wonderful sense of atmosphere and mood here, and I love the light and shadow. This rocks!

You manage to capture such extraordinary light, Tara! One can almost FEEL the atmosphere in this photo. Wonderful, warm sunlight, and just enough shadow to give it a mysterious air. Excellent!
