Description
Taken at Lava Beds National Monument last year. I wanted to get as much of the harsh landscape in as possible in portrait mode, which left just a sliver of space for the distant mountains & sky at the top. I like to do this once in a while for a different kind of look to landscapes...

Excellent presentation of this harsh landscape! looks really great I've heard of the 'rule of three' where one third should be one element, the second of the second and the third of the third elements respectively - apparently it is to lend balance to the photo. In this case, I'm glad you did it this way. puts everything in perspective.
this could be a very 'interesting' 2500-piece jigsaw puzzle
Mike - My favorite rule is "Rules are meant to be broken".
I really like this, and I think it could also be terrific in mono.
I also like the focus on the foreground and the rugged rocky land; wonderful composition and capture!
Outstanding !!!!
The foreground gives us all the information we need in order to understand the middle ground's landscape, and the mountains and sky provide context. It's an engaging image. I like it!
Hiking across the lava beds would be a tough hike - I like the POV!
