Description
Volucella pellucens is the latin name this "daddy" of the hoverflies in the UK. It certainly is hard to miss as hoverflies go, as big as a bumble bee!
It is 2 shots of the same one I took as it crawled over one knapweed bloom. Smaller hoverflies just move out of it's way.
I hope you like this one Andrea? I thought I better try and get a shot for you as soon as I saw it. I wasn't sure what type it was at the time.
Taken with my 70-200 zoom, it was on the camera at the time I saw it. I did try to get my macro lens out but it had gone!

It does bully it's way about doesn't it, when I first saw one of these I swore it foreign, I learned differently of course when I captured one, and researched it. Great shot Kev. I am now of course imagining what it would have looked like with the IR converted body :)
