Description
This Boeing B-17 G "Flying Fortress' and the North American P-51 'Mustang' are flying at Duxford during the 2014 'Flying Legends'.
From late 1943, P-51Bs (supplemented by P-51Ds from mid-1944) were used by the USAAF's Eight Air Force to escort bombers in raids over Germany, while the RAF's 2 TAF and the USAAF's Ninth Air Force used the Merlin-powered Mustangs as fighter-bombers, roles in which the Mustangs helped ensure Allied Air Superiority in 1944.

Makes me miss those sunny weekends before we sold the house, when the guys from Paine would fly over in their vintage, D-Day-striped planes. Cool!
Excellent capture !!!
fabulous image
A wonderful photo for both of these vintage aircraft to be flying together!
Mustang is called 'Miss Velma' and the B-17, 'Sally B' or 'Memphis Belle' on the other side.. She flew as Memphis in the movie of the same name.. Thus wears the name still.. Great capture. Rob
