Description
today, I left the house with my friend at 0530 (barely sunrise) to go over to Portland for the 19th Annual Providence Bridge Pedal.
the last two rides, I did the 8-bridge (24 miles), this year, however, I opted for the 10-bridge (36 miles). Sounds good right? a minor mistake in how the route was presented had a bunch of us repeating the 2nd and 3rd bridge, thereby adding an additional 8 miles to the ride. Doable if you're prepared, we weren't quite prepared but we still did it.
In all, I averaged 12.01 miles an hour. this is very impressive when you realize the hills we rode to get to the bridges (anyone who's drove in Portland knows what I'm talking about.
I'm now at home resting comfortably, listening to Sommeille by George Telemann.
I will do the 10-bridge ride next year.
thank you for your kind comments and faves and I wish you a great week.
ps this is the shot of the start line for the 10-Bridge - we started at 0700.

a cool shot. congratulations on the ride, MIke, rest well!
when I was in college I was able to ride fast on a bike(about 30mph) but it was on fairly flat terrain. now I could walk up the hills but no way could I ride up. when out West I seen some people actually riding up very steep hills. especially on the road on the north side of the Golden gate going up to the park overlooking the bay and bridge. did you ride your bike to Portland or by a vehicle of your friend?
congratulations on your endeavor to push yourself When I was stationed in Virginia I got a chance to partake in the Army 10 miler i'm still proud that i got to participate in it just to say i did it.
Brilliant!
I had an aunt and uncle in Portland - both long gone - I remember going there as a kid.. It was definitely up and down everywhere from what I remember. Cool shot, Mike! Ah, Telemann..... Listening to some Grieg, myself at the moment.. :-)
Great condition you are... Aloha
very nice
The most amazing at the "starting grid" is that they announce the color : as the Giro or Le Tour de France, the winner is wearing the pink(rose) or the yellow jacket. So here, before starting, the yellow wall on the right indicates that it could be also rose : is that the God's pedal sign ?
It looks like a great day for a ride Mike and you did it without a breakdown nor a crash! I say good for you and your friend!
a bicycle day for you, so cool! sorry my friend for late comment...
A super fun day for cyclists! I hope you had a blast.. Great shot! Rob
