Description


The greater rhea is a flightless bird from eastern south America, one of two species in the rhea genus family Rheidae, this one is endemic to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay inhabiting open spaces and grasslands, savannah and grassy wetlands. They can weigh between 44 to 60 pound. The Greater Rhea is the largest bird in South America and can live in the wild between 10 to 11 years. Recently the bird has established itself in Germany.
