Description
Chip posted a piece called Six Layers of Chicago a few weeks ago, and it inspired me to make this collage. Knowing his birthday was coming up, I saved it for today. :) This image contains eight photographs that are already in my gallery. One is a reflection in water, the other seven are reflections in windows. I have no idea how many "planes" that gives this, but it's somewhere approaching ... oh ... a bunch!!

I took the two Chicago shots when I was hanging out with Chip, which for me, (and I'm quite sure for Chip as well), adds another layer to the composition.
Making this was the most fun I've had artistically for a long time! :)

I see San Antonio! And she looks marvelous! They all look marvelous! I've tried doing this. Once. I didn't like it. Okay, I cropped and postworked it ruthlessly and came up with an image I liked, but it was long past looking layered. I will post it sometime and I will have another go at layering too. You are really good at this! I love the way the elements work in harmony with each other. I love the structure of the architecture, the focal point of the guitars and lamp, the sinuous movement of the San Antonio River, and the words. Words which make me think I am looking into a crowded, but intensely fascinating shop. One where strange and mysterious things linger and slip casually from one reality to another. Wonderful image and dedication! Happy Birthday, Chip!

WOW! This is really amazing, and now it has me asking all sorts of questions. If you layer an image of glass reflecting, is that one layer or is it at least three layers? Are there sub-layers or "supra-layers" whatever those are, but it sounds impressive! And what if the reflections are of reflections of reflections, then how many more layers is that? The mind boggles. And outside of that, what an image! It's all so seamless and so perfect! This gives me the feeling that you've captured the fluid nature of reality: stuff swims, gracefully and there are points where things seem to blend, and other points where they seem to peel apart, revealing their layer-ness, and the whole thing just draws you in. There's a lot in this, but there's so much room too and so it's really easy to wander and just take a moment here, a moment there, and some more moments over thataway, to just take it all in at its own pace. No need to rush! 8 layers huh? WOW! They blend and contrast so well, and what a birthday dedi! It's absolutely perfect, and I love the colors: such cool colors with these vivid (and musical) splashes of warmth! Yep, this is a doozie of a good image and, as you know, I love it! THANK YOU for this! It's brilliant. Really snazzy!
