Description
'Fed Square' or Federation Square as it is officially known, is a huge cultural meeting place in Melbourne Australia. It is without a doubt one of our most polarizing public spaces. Everyone has an opinion on it, whether they love it or hate it.
IMHO, whilst it may not be the most classically beautiful building in the world, it's been a success. People sit here and chat, eat great food from the restaurants, listen to live music 24/7 and enjoy the wonderful galleries and pop up art displays. It has succeeded in it's quest to be a true meeting place for tourists and locals alike. One negative that I have with it is that it was built right next to one of our most beautiful old cathedrals, so to my eye it clashes a bit. But if you like buildings and squares with few right angles that resemble bee hives...then Fed Square is for you!!!

Looks like a very cool place.
I agree that it has ruined the lay of the land viz the beautiful old Cathedral Andrew. But what a cool place to hang out and eat. Probably like here you can't have a nice beer outside, much of our public spaces have been designated "No Alcohol zones" Because of the young mongrels that have spoilt it, we are all punished.

You showed us this beautiful Cathedral only a few posts ago and it looked as out of place then as it does now but if it goes down well with everyone then who am I !!

I like the idea of it, not so much the architectural style, especially with that lovely old cathedral right there. But again, I don't live there so I had no input, and therefore I won't judge if it seems to work.
