Description
Captured 10/7/13, very early morn, less than a mile from my archaic abode.
Does anyone see caterpillars?
Since they were so close by, I'm confident this was from pine trees; if not, then how about your input?
ZOOM worthy.

potpourri of still lifes!
Interesting. I didn't see caterpillars but I was reminded of fractal patterns that I used to see when that was my hobby many years ago. Nice shot.
Snakes galore, Harry, wriggling all over the pavement casting shadows willy-nilly in the low angled light...what a wonderful find and capture! The colour contrasts are superb!!!!
Marvellous shadow shapes.
Looks like it's from pines alright. Detritus - I haven't seen or used that word since I was in graduate school.
Great work on another cool capture, Harry
I'm almost at 2 hours, and I'm only on image 7---I'll go faster next time! But, as I have to end with this, it's a great place because it's another of your beautiful captures of minimal subjects; and the light, quality of shadow, textures, musical layout, etc, make this 'minimal' piece very rich and multifarious. I'll assume pine---ala your description---as I know few plant names. (The needles look like they're from the pine family.) Whatever they're from, you got a wonderful array, almost flat---it seems like you're directly on top of this shot, with little or no angle: a choice I love for its stark in-our-face power. And it has a real ballet-ensemble of couplings, movements, flows, etc. There are a few groups of 'waves', here: the way the longer needles form horizontal and vertical flows. There's also a nice contrast between coagulation and space---coagulated leaves/needles, compared to the open space around them. The light is one of your signature early morning lights, and the shadows are just delicious---deep blue, almost purple, with wonderful ragged edges like little creatures. And they're all to the left of their sources, leaving big swaths of open concrete before each object. And you caught the striations of this sidewalk beautifully---it looks so pristine, as if no one even walked on it; where, in fact, it could be quite worn. And the contrast of high light with deep blue shadow is wonderful. And a patch of grass on bottom, to 'root' us...A splendid minimal shot, very rich, with crystal clear textures, and that terrific light. Beautiful. A fine place to end. Despite my slowness today, it's great to be commenting here again. I'll be back again soon, for more!
