Description

Sometimes I find good people. This mamma had her tree cut down. She has two beautiful little blonde babies. The man did not know she was in the tree. When he called me, he was cornered by the mamma raccoon. (aren't cell phones wonderful !). He didn't want to hurt her so he called me for help. I was able to get the babies and put them in a crate. When they started calling for mom, she gave the man one more verbal dressing down and went in to her babies. I moved them to a barn on a friends property. That was 2 weeks ago and they are fine. I was very impressed with the wonderful man that risked getting chewed up badly to make sure that mamma got to raise her babies. If you have never tangled with a wild mamma raccoon, just remember. Pound for pound they have the strength of a bear. They are extremely protective of the kits and of each other. It is rare to find a person that cares enough to face that. That day was a good day.

She is very content here. As long as we stay away from her babies! I think we used up all of the grace on the one. She will do well.

Marvelous capture and sweet story. When I lived out the outskirts of Memphis, TN there was a few raccoons who lived up in the woods behind our house and we set food out on the front porch for them in the snowy months and sometimes I would look out the glass paned windows at night and watch them eat and they got used to seeing me and one night they ran out of food because had brought a friend along which looked like a baby and the Mom coon came to the window and looked up to me and made the funniest noise. I think she was fusing because I did not put out enough food therefore the next night they got doubles just in case. I live in a suburb of Dallas, TX now and I sure do miss seeing all the raccoons and the family of them that lived behind my house. Thanks for sharing...:)))
