Description
One of Australia's great mysteries was the crash and disappearance of our best known aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. Kingsford Smith and J.T. (Tommy) Pethybridge took off from Croydon, England in November 1935 to establish a new long-distance speed record from England to Australia. The Lady Southern Cross crashed over the Bay of Bengal near Burma. Kingsford Smith and his co-pilot were never seen again. The mysterious accident has been the subject of searches, conspiracy theories, books and documentary films.
