Description
Captured 5/24/14, very early morning, sitting on an onramp in construction, adjacent to our local Interstate 5 freeway widening project, due for completion in 2016.
This model normally has a shovel attachment in front, that which, in this case, has been replaced by an earth boring drill of some sort.

excellent shooting of this giant machine !
Now THAT could do some serious digging, look at that awl! Wowie! Great capture of this earthshaping machine, Harry; you could dig all the way through to China with that thing!
Tough Machines.... Aloha
Gosh! A very meaningful drill!
Wow, I've never seen anything like that. It would be interesting to see it working. It would make quite a hole. Great shot. You got the machines and their operators. One of the latter is looking your way.
Got some of those working nearby here.. Famous name indeed.. Rob
Andrea said "a very meaningful drill": Lol, I'd say that's a MAJOR meaningful drill. LOADED with meaning! I wouldn't wanna be within a mile of that thing. (That's a big mother drill.) Well composed, with the wall-top moving with the lines of the excavator. And the crane set apart by its perpendicular lines. And yeah, one of the workers looks like he's looking at you. Maybe thinking, "you're taking a picture of US?" (That's what observant photographers do!) The drill is lined with the edge of that brick abutment on the left, and the red light on the truck is aligned with the 'dip' in the wall (on the right). Small points, but good composition. Bleak hues, but a powerful presence; and the wall has a crew cut on top! (The wires on top of the wall.) A real find because, like Lucinda, I've never seen a drill like that. Very observant of you, Harry, because most people pass these sites by, hoping to get away from them as soon as possible. And btw, please don't ever worry about having to cut your comments short: I noticed you'd been away on sunday---it was father's day, after all---so I knew you had to catch up. Your comments are great at any length, and I appreciated them all. I always feel guilty when I upload 4 or 5 shots in one day (and I thanked you all in my upload, this morning); but since I'm gone from here many days, I get this urge to get up a bunch, and then I think "what have I done to my fans!!!" So never feel bad that you have to cut yourself short, or even can't comment on something at all: Given my absences, I'd be the last person to complain about missed images, esp with the quality of your comments.
