Description
Walk up Frakkastigur away from the harbor and you enter the arts district. This is a neighborhood where many local Icelandic artists live and play. It is also a neighborhood under siege. Because of its close proximity to the shopping street on Skólavörðustígur, where galleries and jewelry stores sell high-end products to the tourists, there is increaasing pressure for “urban renewal“. Undesirables are encouraged to leave so that shiny new apartment blocks that all look exactly the same can be built. After all, we don‘t want to scare off the tourists, do we?

the image at the bottom left says it perfectly and I fully agree with it, especially after seeing the image on the right. Great collage Mark and pithy observations
I agree with Mike, it's disgusting and reminds me of the song "Little Boxes". Your collage shows it well, i like it a lot!
I love the images that have in its some concept! This is a very conceptual piece of art!
So sad, and one of the reasons that I'm glad I'm not young
Incredible - text & image! Profound work, love your thinking
I not believe it...everywhere same images in the world. Even in a sleepy place like this. I am of course on the artist pages. Later, locals wonder: here was once a theatre. Where is it? It was victim of the greed of the city fathers . And I think it's unfair that artists be aware squeezed into a cliché of the subculture.
VERY INTERESTING STREET ART
Reminds me "A brave new world", individuals not wanted, just clones allowed! They must be thinking give occupants of the apartments a discount if they buy the same model of car, the same style of clothing etc..
Pifffff! Who wants tacky boxes? As a camera-toting tourist, I'm not interested in blocks of something that look exactly the same!!
