Description
We arrived in South Texas at the end of December, and on the first bright, sunny day we headed for South Padre Island and the Gulf of Mexico. Good thing, too, because when we got back to Padre a couple of days ago to camp here, it was foggy and has stayed foggy ever since! We've got nothing against fog. Bill and I both spent our childhoods in seaside towns, so we're used to marine weather.
So here we are at South Padre Island, sitting in the fog, with a whole bunch of great pictures from six weeks ago! :)
The beach here is covered in shells. I was crawling around on the beach like a lizard, trying to take pictures and keep sand out of the camera at the same time.
It's beautiful here, but very different from what I'm used to! The beach is quite narrow (unlike the Pacific Ocean, where the water is waaaaaaay the heck out there). Lots of shells and no driftwood. And although they had the red flag for "high surf" posted, the waves looked pretty tame to me! Maybe they were about two feet high at the most.
It's fun to travel and see new things!

Wow, you really did get down low for this shot. I love all the different shapes, patterns & textures on display here, combined with the limited, but appealing color palette & the play of light & shadow. Another one of your extraordinary shots of ordinary objects...

My goodnes! I would have freaked out seeing so many awesome shells. I would have rushed back for a few dozens of shopping bags to fill up with them. I sure would try to find out what to use them for. :))) We dont have many of such here on Zealand. Not that size... ours are smaller than thumbnails. What a beautiful and so clear shot. .-)

Wonderful POV of these water-washed shells; they look softer than the Pacific shells, like they've been kicked around more. Maybe it's all those hurricanes? Great capture!
Oh wow, I just LOVE this shot. I never get tired of beaches and shells and oceans (guess you might already know that!1 lol) and this foto is why. Every beach is so different and they are all beautiful in their own ways.

That's a really cool shot, Tara! Lovely shells, and a great angle - I love how you described getting your photos! LOL! Careful - that sand gets into EVERYTHING! My dad & step-mom used to have a vacation house in Harlingen - we went there in '93, and visited S. Padre.
