AGAINST THE TIDE by Dieter Carlton A poem for which the artist wrote as follows ... Not long ago, so tall its masts But on the sea that never lasts Her sails could not withstand its might Though restless gales her bow would spite Her deck beneath the ocean sways She soon would see the end of days Alas, she sinks, and all is lost Her contents, souls, so high a cost And while it all may find the deep Sometimes its spoils the sea won't keep And soon upon a distant shore The mighty ship, but not her lore Lays gently now upon her side To rest its shell AGAINST THE TIDE
