Excellent image, though probably not historically accurate. There were female gladiators, but they usually fought at night, lit by torches. It was considered quite improper even to the Romans, as a law was passed forbidding daughters of Roman senators from fighting - which implies some of them did, almost certainly for the thrill of it.

actually it was not one law but 3 laws passed over several decades, banning noble women, free women & then all women. the mere fact these laws existed suggests women gladiators was very wide spread & popular, even after the overall ban a program from an event in Pompeii still listed women
