Description
If we are fortunate enough that our parents loved us and we loved them it's the unbearable time in many of our lives as we grow older we ultimately lose them as the years go on. I lost my father at just 45 when I was 15 and so my mother was not just my mother she was my father, best friend and confidant... we lived many years together under the same roof and when I fell ill she took care of me as I did for her in her final years, she was 79 when she died.. type-2 diabetic but sadly had kidney failure in late 2007 and almost died then yet came through but spent the remaining 18 months of her life on dialysis.
She suffered a bad accident in 2004 when pre xmas shopping with my sister and broke her knee, it was the catalyst of a vibrant, well spoken and intelligent woman having her independence virtually denied to her, despite physio she remained more or less on one or two crutches for the remainder of her life.
She loved art and always encouraged me, she was my best critic and supporter and would not pull punches if things were wrong and she would tell me so and why. There is never a day goes by when I don't think of her, even through the pain of her arthritis compounded in her knee's by that accident.. she walked forward as best she could with no sense of self-pity but her life changed from the independence that was part of her... and my world is a far lesser place without her no longer being in my life.
I guess we never really get over the loss no matter how many years that pass... we can only learn to live with it and remember the good times and they remain, in our hearts and in our memories and photographs and video... and eventually one day in the future, around the corner we all meet again... as we learn the unanswered question.
