I believe that this story was made into an opera... Think that I have it on CD.... now I'm going to have to find it and listen to it... A superb creation.

it's not an opera but a novel in a famous book about a love story in a location around Milan during the 17th century, It is considered the most important in Italian literature of the 19th

I promessi sposi was made into an opera of the same name by Amilcare Ponchielli in 1856 and by Errico Petrella in 1869. For a moment... I thought that I was losing my mind :-)
