Description
This is the end of the lake, a path breaks from the circling of the lake. This leads to Haystacks, a small but very popular fell. It was the fav of the legend of walkers Alfred Wainwright. The man who wrote the hand written and drawn guides to the Lakeland fells. It was a labour of love that was 13 years of work.
They inspired thousands to explore the fells. The great mans ashes are scattered by a tarn on the walk. He has a small plaque to honour him in Buttermere church too. He stated many years before his death that was his wish. He even said " In years to come if you get a piece of ash stuck in the tread of your boots, while walking by this tarn. Be careful how you remove it, it may be me".
