Description
The New Mosque was begun in 1597, commissioned by Valide Sultan Safiye, mother of Sultan Mehmed III (1593-1603). In plan, the Yeni Cami is much like the Blue Mosque (Source: Lonely Planet, Turkey, 2001).
On the right side is the Egyptian Bazaar. The bazaar and the mosque are on the edge of the Golden Horn, Istanbul's traditional harbor.
