Description
Here's a cicada larva empty shell, which was hidden under a rhubarb leaf (i was harvesting my rhubarb to make rhubarb preserve, as usual)... :)
It is amazing how much detail these have.
The dirt on it is from being underground, as the larva stays underground until it is time to dig itself up, to climb on something like a tree - or in this case a leaf - and get out as a cicada, leaving the shell behind.
The only "damage" to this shell was as usual a clean slit on the top of the back (from where the cicada extracts itself from it).
MUCH better in full view... just saying. ;)
Comments welcome, thanks for looking! :)

This is truly an amazing photo. Well captured.
Fantastic work on this very cool macro capture, Jean-Luc. Like the details of this shell.
A great shop on this mini-beast.I like rhubarb with strawberries.Yumm,yumm.
Excellent photography and a super zoom.
Cool capture!!
It looks alive!
Very cool, love the look of the eye. Nice catch.
What a handsome brute !!!
What an eye -- both yours (for the photography) AND the creature's! Lovely viewpoint and capture! :)
Thank you, all! :)
A little Alien?! :D Wonderful details, great shot!
Looks like the little critter made his escape, glad you caught the remains, great shot!
a cool and creepy shot!
Awesome details! Both in your picture and in the cicada that left such a detailed copy of itself...
could have sworn it was home... with eye and all?? (it would be sooo welcome in the runtime here! ;-D) fantastic capture!!
The detail here is fantastic, much better than I got with my dragonfly carcass. I am intrigued by the eye looking green. Do you know if it was clear or reflecting the leaves? Great shot!
Thank you, all! :) The shell is a lot transparent, or at least translucent, hence the eye being green. I have other angles where the eyes are brown because what is behind the transparent part is the rest of the shell...
wonderful macro
Thank you! :)
