Description
GWR 4073 Class 5029 Nunney Castle is a great Western Railway Castle Class steam locomotive built at Swindon works in 1934 and takes the name of Nunney Castle near Frome in Somerset.
The locomotive was used in many publicity and "life on the railway" type of photographs. During the first day of the World War II Evacuations, the locomotive hauled trains carrying children being taken from London to the safety of the countryside.
Photographing steam engines is not a great success of mine. Never seem to find the right spot with the right lighting.
This is Nunney Castle coming into Trowbridge station hauling the Weymouth Express.
Not my best photo ever but the light was falling and on the wrong side of the train. Great nostalgia though.

Nice!
Well it looks awfully good to me, the light on the train length is lovely and the design of the engine is clear and shiny. Well done!
Excellent photography.
I think you did quite well, beautiful train, outstanding capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A fine photo of this grand old train, despite what you may think...
I can't see anything but perfection here.
WOW ... Marvelous old train... Wonderful capture !
Excellent capture and perspective!
Wonderful old loco.
I agree with everyone else not sure how I would have tried to improve this.
Good enough for me as well. Superb capture. God bless.
I think you are being very hard on yourself and the selection for best of the week supports my view. You got a lovely metalic reflection and the steam shows the train is "alive." I don't think you would have gotten the reflects on the sunnyside. You might have brightened up the shadows a bit in RAW to highlight the wheel mechanics but I think that is artistic preference. I often leave things a bit overdarkened for contrast. Well done.
Love these old steam engines... a very masterful capture....
