Description
The Plaka is the old Turkish quarter of Athens and virtually all that existed when Athens was declared the capital of independent Greece. Its narrow, labyrinthine streets nestle into the north-eastern slope of the Acropolis, and most of the city's ancient sites are close by. Plaka's streets are packed with restaurants and souvenir shops (Source: Lonely Planet, Greece, 1996).
